Welcome to the Cowichan Folk Guild
"The purpose of our Folk Guild is simple... To bring musicians and audiences together and let everyone share the good times that follow."
We Are Now Accepting Online Payments For Memberships
and Tickets for the 2012 Islands Folk Festival.
February is Membership Month!!
We’re bringing back our “Sign up a Friend Contest”
You could WIN 2 VIP passes to the 2012 Islands Folk Festival just by signing up a few friends. Ask Stan Neil, last year’s winner if it was worth the effort! Please ensure your Folk Guild membership is up to date. Ask at the door at any coffee house or phone the office. We’ll be happy to help you out. You may also renew memberships online via our website. Check out all the advantages of membership here!
Are you willing to help out with our membership drive? Please get in touch with Folk Guild membership chairperson Marilyn Weland, or call the office.
We’re gearing up for a great year, but we need your assistance. How many people do you know who should be Folk Guild members? It’s time to bring them onboard our award winning Community organization and maybe win some Folk Festival V.I.P passes at the same time. Join us and celebrate the true value of Music in our lives. Now is the time to join this wonderful community organization!

February may be the shortest month of the year but you’ll long remember our coffee house feature next month, Cara McCandless. Cara has been performing and writing music for over 20 years and through life's lessons and experiences has written over 100 songs. Cara's ability to evoke feeling through her works will give you goosebumps and touch your heart. In 2000 Cara was a winner of 100.3 The Q’s radio contest, “Rocktoria” that enabled her to record "Shamed", "Put Me Under", and "Hair-do" with a producer and gain radio airplay. "Shamed" reached #3 on the charts at CHLY in Nanaimo. Back to her roots, Cara looks forward to re-recording those songs in a folk genre on her debut album "In the Sun" to be released in early 2012.
Cara has also released an album with her family act, "McCandless Family Band", featuring her originals "No Escape", "Royalties", "Our Love is Strong", "Sweet Revenge" and "Us". Let’s all come out and give Cara a hometown Folk Guild welcome.
March Coffee House - Sat. March 10th, 2012

A rip-roaring fun evening of humor and song with the Cowichan Valley’s own: Bijoux du Bayou! Cajun band, Bijoux Du Bayou, brings high-energy music combining Cajun, Zydeco, Swing, Calypso, and a few other flavors to create a sound that would make the Amish want to do the Bugaloo! From fast-paced infectious tunes to a slow lovers' waltz, you'll love Bijoux Du Bayou. Their debut CD Canajun Pardi Gras and the follow-up ‘Because We Can’ earned this band a spot in all Canajun hearts. OOOOOOOWeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
The boys are back in town!!

Musicians Registry
The Cowichan Folk Guild is continually building a musicians registry. We often receive requests from venues and other organizations to supply musicians (and equipment) for their events. We would like to hear from you if you are an active muscian and would like to be considered as part of our gig referral service. Send us an email with your name, the instrument(s) you play, the main style of music, and your contact information. We will add this information to our registry and will contact you when an opportunity arises. Kind of like a free booking agency. First dibs of course will be given to Cowichan Folk Guild members in good standing. It's only fair that our valued members get the perks first. Not a member, well you just found another great reason to join up.
Got Bottles! We need them!
As part of the CFG’s fundraising activities we have set up an account at the Duncan recycling centre. After sorting your bottles and containers just tell the counter person you would like to donate your return to the Cowichan Folk Guild. Every penny helps. We really appreciate your support and it helps the environment too!
